Flora

Originally from the Philippines, Flora lives with her friends in a suburb near Hornsby and works as a chef at a prominent restaurant in the area.

Her days are anything but quiet. Working six days a week, often until late at night, Flora has a demanding schedule. Despite that, she also finds time to help her friends and their families — including dropping their children at school before heading to work.

With so much packed into her everyday life, being able to drive independently was going to make a significant difference.

There was just one challenge. Flora had never held a driver licence before — anywhere in the world.

Unlike many of our overseas learners who arrive in Australia with years of driving experience, Flora was starting completely from scratch. Her goal was to learn the fundamentals properly, become a safe and confident driver and ultimately earn her very first driver licence right here in Australia.

Flora's introduction to Tailwind Driver Training Academy happened quite literally on the road. One day, she spotted our training car with the Tailwind signboard and became curious. She later searched for us on Google, visited our website and spent some time reading the experiences and reviews shared by our learners. Impressed by what she found, Flora gave us a call.

And that phone call marked the beginning of her driving journey.

Despite having no previous driving experience, she was remarkably quick at understanding new concepts and, more importantly, putting them into practice behind the wheel.

Whether it was vehicle control, observation, positioning, decision-making or responding to different road and traffic situations, Flora absorbed feedback quickly and continued to build on it. That certainly made our job easier!

With every lesson, her confidence grew and her driving became progressively more polished. What started as learning the basics soon turned into preparing a capable young driver for the realities of independent driving.

As her skills developed, we conducted a number of mock driving tests to assess her readiness under test-like conditions. Her progress gave us confidence that she was ready, so we encouraged her to complete her Hazard Perception Test and secure a driving-test booking without unnecessarily delaying things.

Flora took the advice.

She completed her Hazard Perception Test on her very first attempt and then went ahead and booked the big one — her practical driving test.

As test day approached, the nerves naturally began to appear.

For someone attempting their first-ever driving test, that nervousness was completely understandable. Flora had never experienced the pressure of being assessed independently behind the wheel, and now everything she had learnt would be put to the test.

But when it mattered most, she held her nerve.

She trusted her preparation, focused on her driving and delivered an outstanding performance.

The result? An incredible 99% score — and a pass on her very first attempt! 🎉

From someone who had never held a driver licence before to becoming a confident P-plater with a 99% first-attempt result, Flora's achievement was truly special.

Passing the test wasn't simply about earning a licence for Flora. It was about making everyday life easier and gaining a new level of independence.

She now has her own car and can manage her busy routine with considerably more flexibility. Whether it's helping drop her friends' children at school, getting herself to work or heading home after another late shift, she can now do it with the freedom and convenience of driving herself.
