1. As a learner driver, what would I need with me when taking my car out for driving?

A: As a leaner driver, you would mandatorily need to carry the following:

  • Learner's License

  • A roadworthy vehicle

  • L plates displayed clearly and in full on the front and rear of the vehicle

  • A full license holder on the front passenger seat to supervise you (In QLD, the supervising driver must have held a full Australian license for at least 1 year.)

It is recommended that you also carry your logbook as well as any additional photo identification besides your licence.

2. I have a learner's license. Can I drive my parent's car?

A. Yes, you can - as long as you ensure the following:

​

  • The car is roadworthy

  • There is a comprehensive insurance on the car

  • There is a qualified supervisor driver with you

3. I have a learner's license. In case of an accident, does the comprehensive insurance cover the damages?

A. Not necessarily. This is something to be confirmed with the insurance company before you take the vehicle out as a learner driver.

4. As a learner driver, can I use my mobile phone to play music and use the GPS?

A. Using of mobile phones in handheld, hands-free or on phone holders is legally prohibited for learner drivers in Australia. It is also recommended not to use or do anything that could potentially distract you at the time of driving, including playing music from the radio or eating while driving.
